Prof. Oluwole Daniel Makinde

Oluwole Daniel Makinde is presently a Professor of Applied and Computational Mathematics at the Faculty of Military Science, Stellenbosch University, South Africa. He was a Senior Professor and Chair of Postgraduate Studies at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, South Africa (2008–2013) and Professor & Head of the Applied Mathematics discipline at the University of Limpopo, South Africa (1998–2008). He is also a visiting Professor to several other Universities, these include: Adama Science and Technology University in Ethiopia; African University of Science and Technology in Nigeria, Pan African University Institutes Basic Science, Technology and Innovation in Nairobi-Kenya; Nelson Mandela-African Institute of Science and Technology (NM-AIST)- Arusha, Tanzania; Vellore Institute of Technology in India, etc. Prof. Makinde’s research work covers three broad areas-namely: Fluid Mechanics, Mathematical Biology and Computational Mathematics. He authored 4 Applied Mathematics textbooks & monographs, edited 10 advanced research textbooks on Heat Transfer in Fluids & Solids and published over 600 research papers in many reputable international journals worldwide. Prof. Makinde receives several distinctions, fellowships, prizes and awards. These include: National Science and Technology Forum and the National Research Foundation (NSTF-NRF) 2009/2010 T.W. Kambule Senior Researcher Award for outstanding contributions to science, engineering, technology and innovation in South Africa; 2011/2012 African Union Kwame Nkrumah Continental Scientific Award from African Heads of State for outstanding contributions to Basic Science, Technology and Innovation in Africa; 2014 Nigerian National Honour Award titled the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) for his outstanding contribution to Mathematical Sciences by His Excellency the President of Nigeria; African Academy of Sciences (AAS) Fellowship Award for outstanding contributions to science, innovation and technology in Africa (2012); Best Senior Research Scientist Award at University of Limpopo (1999-2007); Best Research Scientist Award at CPUT (2008-2012); Best Research Scientist Award at Stellenbosch University-Military Science (2016-2021), Stellenbosch University Chancellor Award (2019); Obada Prize (International) Distinguished Researcher Award (2021), Fellow of Papua New Guinea Mathematical Society Award (2013) and International Academy of Physical Sciences Fellowship Award for his outstanding contributions to the field of mathematical sciences (FIAPS) (2018).
